Day 3:
We took our time leaving Dodge City, KS and crept towards Eastern OK around 11:00. At 10:00 we had our weather briefing. We discussed the high instability and shear over Eastern OK and Western AR. This area also shows a bulge in the dry line and dew points around 79'F. I'm not very familiar with the sweat index in soundings but I know it starts looking severe when it gets around 300 or 400. The sounding for Queens, AR showed 710! Wow! This may end up becoming a big severe weather/tornado outbreak. We just hope and pray that if this is the case the tornadoes are in fields and not towns. I want this to be a beautiful learning experience, yet a safe one. We plan to place ourselves in the triple point where the low, dry line, and cold front meet.
.....In the van Tori S. and I are racing while doing "find the words". So far she's got me 5-2, but I will come back! We went through Greensburg, KS and saw the devastating damage from the F-5 tornado that hit on May 4, 2007. Even a year later and the town still looks destroyed. We set up camp for the night at McAlaster OK. Jessica Dealy, Tori S., and I watched The Other Boleyn Girl. It was very good.
