Rain Delivery

For Starkville:
On this Thursday afternoon, it is currently raining on the Starkville campus. This much needed rain is delivered in by the remains of hurricane Humberto. Humberto has already made history by changing from a 30 KT depression to a 75 KT hurricane in only 18 hours. No other hurricane has ever intensified so quickly so close to landfall. So far, Humberto has poured heavy amounts of rain in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and most of the south half of Louisiana. It has also showered Southern and Western Mississippi even northward up into the Memphis and Arkansas area.

Don’t put those umbrellas away just yet, because Humberto is currently in central Mississippi and will creep into the Eastern part of the state and on into Alabama by Friday afternoon. Be aware that even though the hurricane is diminishing it can still produce some spin off tornadoes or strong winds. The National Weather Service has place Starkville, MS and several other central and south Mississippi counties under a flash flood watch since 1pm today and will continue to do so until late tonight.

Temperatures for tonight and tomorrow will be comfortable, yet a little muggy in the 70°s. Tonight’s low is 70° and tomorrow’s high is 79°. By Friday night most of the rain will have moved on into Alabama and leaving us with a crisp cool 64° for our low.

For the weekend:
By Saturday the sun has joined us again for a beautiful weekend. Expect bright clear skies and a very pleasant day with the high at only 82°. For Saturday night you will really recognize Fall knocking on the door with a low of 56°. Get geared up for another great Sunday with the high at 86° and the low at 61°.

Be Prepared for:

1) Potential flood areas
2) Possibility of spin off tornadoes or strong winds
3) Cooler temps for Saturday
4) Dry air from the north that will decrease humidity
