Great Plains Storm Chase 08

Day 11:

We left Artesia, NM early that morning. At this point there's not a lot of chasing to take place because we're in somewhat of a death ridge which is keeping the storms at bay. Our next chance for activity looks to be on Wednesday, but we're just gonna take it one day at a time and see what the models suggest. We drove about 6 hrs to Canyon, Texas. I'm pretty far behind in the "find the word" races (13-5), but I will not loose hope. Once we got to Canyon, Texas we went and ate at the famous Big Texan in Amarillo. They are known for the free 72 ounce steak. The trick is that you have to eat everything that goes with it and within an hour. If you are unsuccessful then you have to pay $72. The big hunk of beef looks like a roast. I was proud to eat a 10 ouncer by myself. The Big Texan was a fun place with a fun atmosphere. They had a little band that would serenade each table. I grabbed a few souvenirs from the gift shop and we went back to the hotel with full bellies.
